Gold Standard Membership Requirements

- Age: 18 years or above.
- It is recommended that you be vaccinated for Hepatitis A, B, checked for C.
- Members must adhere to the American Electrology Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics, and Infection Prevention Standards. Members may be removed from membership for failure to maintain these standards at the sole discretion of the GEA.
- Members must agree to follow all CDC guidelines for the protection of both practitioner and clients exposed to blood borne pathogens.
- Proof of education from an AEA-approved electrolysis school or private instructor in the amount of 600 hours. Applicants must submit a copy of their certificate of completion along with an official transcript detailing training hours. *Private instructors must have a current Certified Professional Electrologist (CPE) credential offered by the American Electrology Association and be in current good standing for a minimum of five (5) years.
- Out-of-state licensed electrologists, and previous CPE’s may be grandfathered in with approval by the current officers of the GEA.
- Members are encouraged to attend all GEA meetings and required to attend at least one per calendar year, either physically or via Zoom.
- The GEA Executive Board may, at their sole discretion, remove from membership anyone failing to maintain these requirements and standards.
- Proof of electrolysis liability insurance coverage is required.
- Once accepted into the GEA, members are automatically eligible to join the AEA, as long as the GEA is an affiliate of the AEA.
- Members of the Georgia Electrologists Association (GEA) are not allowed to teach electrolysis until they have worked as an Electrologist for five (5) years and maintained, in excellent standing, the Certified Professional Electrologist (CPE) credential for a five (5) year period after taking and passing the CPE exam.
- The requirements for the teaching of electrolysis are strictly enforced. Any member that does not follow or goes against the GEA teaching requirements will be permanently removed from the Georgia Electrologists Association (GEA) and the American Electrology Association (AEA) and prohibited from using any of the AEA or GEA’s advertising and promotional materials.
- The GEA annual dues are $95.00. Annual dues amount may be subject to change yearly.
- A copy of driver’s license or birth certificate is required for membership.
- Refrain from negatively commenting on another electrologist publicly or by any means, including social media.

ELECTROLOGIST CERTIFICATIONS, CREDENTIALS, AND DEFINITIONS
(GEA REQUIRES 600 HOURS OF TRAINING)
- Certified Professional Electrologist (CPE)
- Certified Clinical Electrologist (CCE)
- Licensed Electrologist (LE)
A Certified Professional Electrologist or Certified Clinical Electrologist is one who has paid to sit for a specialized, registered, and closely governed examination, and by passing with high marks, has earned the right to use the designation, “Certified Professional Electrologist”, (CPE), or “Certified Clinical Electrologist”, (CCE).
A Licensed Electrologist is a designation given by states that have licensure requirements for Electrologists in that state. Once a person sits for the state exam and passes with high marks, they have earned the right to use the designation of “Licensed Electrologist”, (LE).
These are the only Electrology certifications recognized in the Electrology profession.
There are no certifications or licensures in the Electrology profession for “master, expert, or specialist”.
